Sulgimise aeg / Moulting time

Svalbard rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta hyperborea) is changing into winter plumage. It's the only land-inhabiting bird which resides in the archipelago throughout the year. Svalbard rock ptarmigan is a sub-species of the rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta). It is larger and heavier than either the rock ptarmigan or the willow ptarmigan on mainland.

Otsustav hetk / The decisive moment

Ühe jääskulptuuri jaoks on kätte jõudnud elu otsustav hetk. Shakespeare'i parafraseerides võiks nüüd küsida - minna või mitte minna.

For one ice sculpture the decisive moment of its life has been reached. Paraphrasing Shakespeare one could ask now - go or not to go. Unfortunately, ultimately there is still no choice at this case as the viewpoint where it stands is also formed by ice. And that ice sooner or later must melt anyway.
But in a similar manner our life can be full of these decisive moments and who could tell us then what choice we should make. Do we trust our internal feeling, have we a courage to face the challenege, or perhaps would better stay on the safe side. Hard to say as every case can be different.

All what I can say, is that when I left that place after some days, this ice piece had still not made up its mind.

Huntide maa / The Wolfland

Pildil kujutatu on koht kus nad elavad, kus see ulguminegi lindistatud on.
The image shows the place where they live, where the howling has been recorded.

Paraku on teda seal kujutatud mitte just hea tegelaskujuna. Alateadlik hirm, mida me huntide vastu tunneme, pärineb ilmselt juba meie esivanematelt, kelle rajad huntide omadega millalgi liigagi sageli kohtuma hakkasid.

Mythology and folklore is full of stories about wolves. Wolf is probably a wild beast, that has been most deeply embedded in many of our famous myths and legends. But mostly presented as a not good character. Subconscious fear what we feel against wolves probably origins already from our ancestors on early days when paths of these two started to cross too many times. That has brought to wolves rather bad reputation what has resulted with our violent and resistant attitude against them. An instinctive fear of the wolf became a fearsome symbol of our woods and wild nature. Creature that once symbolised strength and courage became dark and savage. Yet, they are a natural part of the landscape and the ecosystem - a very needed part.
If there could be a sound in wild landscape what could symbolize strength, independency and untamableness, then for me it would be the howling of the wolves - a truly call of the wild.

"The Wild still lingered in him and the wolf in him merely slept."

Ebatäiuslikkus teeb elu huvitavamaks kui täiuslikkus / Imperfection makes life more interesting than perfection

Järjekordne piksenoolte kogum on Zeusi poolt teele saadetud. Kuid paar neist juhtuvad paraku sõlme minema - juhtub parimatelgi!

Another bunch of lightning strikes has released from Zeus thunderbolt. But couple of them happened to have knots inside - It happens, even with the best ones!
